At Kara Mia (7690 Markham Rd Unit 6, Markham, ON L3S 3K1), the answer to this question is delicious pasta, boiling in a pot with halal meats! When I went there with my family, I had an array of options with pasta, chicken, and steak dishes! Despite the menu being difficult to narrow down, I was able to decide on the peppercorn chicken with rice, the fetticcine alfredo with chicken, the caesar salad, and the chocolate cake. Both, the peppercorn chicken and the fettuccine alfredo were utterly heavenly - in particular, the fettuccine was layered with a creamy alfredo sauce that made it incredibly filling! Furthermore, the caesar salad had just the right amount of dressing for a light side dish that was delicious but still left space for dessert. As for the star of the show - the chocolate cake was sinfully delicious, with each layer melting in the mouth! When it comes to halal Italian dishes, you'll scarcely find a better restaurant than Kara Mia! Be sure to check out locations in Markham or Ottawa the next time you crave Italian! — O T T A W A — Ok I am very behind on my Ottawa series from this past weekend (so much for posting in real-time) but it was a packed weekend! We went to watch our friends play in the @govleague tournament this weekend which was a lot of fun! And had dinner with my parents on Saturday night at @alirang_ottawa ! This place is BUMPIN’ man! I used to come here when I was like high school and it would be so busy, and like 15 years later it’s still so busy (and the parking lot is still the size of a sandbox, good thing I am good at 20-point turns). We got there super early at 5pm (that’s early for dinner for Asians) and managed to snag a table, and we still had to wait around 30-40 minutes for our food. By the time we left at around 6pm, the line went out the door, down the stairs, almost to the sidewalk! I bet those people waited for over an hour… Anyway, 3 out of the 4 of us got gamjatang, I got one with rice cakes, the boy got one with glass noodles, and dad got the regular one with potato. Mum got bibimbap, and we shared a seafood pancake. Everything was delicious! (Which is why this place is always jam packed!) The soup was SO SPICY but I endured it in the name of my ancestors. The pork was soooo tender and fell off the bone 🤤 idk about you but it gives me the ick when you’re digging into gamjatang and you have to like forcibly pry the meat off the bones. Like isn’t this supposed to be stewed for a billion years until it’s soft and tender what is going on. Anyway, this was a great meal! The boy underestimated Ottawa and was like “what? There’s Korean food here?” Like hello where do you think we are?? Guelph?? Belleville?! That random town in Manitoba where @angchoy grew up?! Thai Tuesdays … or everyday!! 🇹🇭 My obsession lately has been Thai food and I’ve said this before, it’s hard finding a good restaurant in the GTA. Who knew, that there was an authentic Thai restaurant in Port Credit. They’ve got alot of staple dishes, also some unique ones that aren’t usually offered at alot of restaurants. Here’s what we tried: 🍹 Thai Iced Tea 🍸 Shirley Temple 🍤 Coconut shrimp 🥙 Papaya salad 🍲 Tom Yum shrimp soup 🥘 Holy Basil Chicken 🍛 Curry Pad Thai 🍝 Beef Pad See Ew 🍚 Tom Yum Fried rice I’ve got to say, the Thai iced tea is one of the best I’ve had within the GTA. If you like spicy and refreshing, I’d highly recommend the papaya salad. Although everything was tasty, some favourites were the curry pad Thai (saucyyyyy) and Tom yum fried rice.
