@climatesavemovement Why love one but eat the other?⠀
⠀
If we all grew up with pet turkeys, and our parents, and societal conditioning told us that dogs are food - we would all be defending "our right" to eat dogs.⠀
⠀
Have you ever wondered why most people completely disconnect themselves from the fact that dogs and farmed animals, in this case, turkeys - while not identical, are quite similar in all the features that seem to count morally to most people. ⠀
⠀
And if not, have you ever wondered why you haven't wondered?⠀
⠀
They have similar social intelligence with rich emotional lives, they enjoy the company of friends and family, they are able to express a broad range of emotions, both can use human-given cues to locate objects, and of course, both animals have a deep capacity to suffer and a desire to avoid pain; and would ALL prefer not to be chopped up into pieces for a soon forgotten meal?⠀
⠀
When we suffer, we suffer as equals; and in their capacity to suffer, a turkey, is a pig, is a dog, is a boy.⠀
