70 years ago today, the I Love Lucy episode “Lucy Changes Her Mind” aired. When Lucy can’t make up her mind while out to eat at a restaurant, Ricky is adamant that she finish everything she starts. This was the final episode to be filmed prior to the pregnancy story arc and saved as a flashback show. “Lucy Changes Her Mind” was based on the My Favorite Husband episode “Liz Changes Her Mind.” The restaurant scene was repeated nearly verbatim and Frank Nelson reprised his role as the exasperated waiter. This was inspired by a lunch had by the three writers — Jess Oppenheimer, Bob Carroll Jr., and Madelyn Pugh. Madelyn kept changing her order based on what the others ordered. Although Ricky mentions they dined at The Roof Garden in the opening flashback sequence, the restaurant menus read “Jubilee Club.” In the episode’s final gag, John Hart plays Lucy’s college flame Tom Henderson. At the time, Hart was portraying The Lone Ranger on television. He replaced the role’s originator, Clayton Moore, for one season. 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝘁𝘆: 𝗦𝗲𝗮𝘀𝗼𝗻 𝟰 (𝟮𝟬𝟭𝟯) ⭐️⭐️⭐️ I must confess, I had some trepidation going straight into the show’s fourth season, knowing the shifting gears in the overall feel of it and the fact that it’s not really as well regarded by fans. In amidst changing showrunners, with Dan Harmon temporarily departing and Chevy Chase being constantly frustrated with the material and the apparent fact that he was quite a pain to work with, contributed to something that was trying to replicate what made the first three seasons so great, but the results weren’t quite so. I still don’t think this is as bad as some people made it out to be, it’s just that some of the decisions felt ill advised. Take for example the whole Troy & Britta relationship that nobody really asked for, but it’s so poorly developed, that towards the end they really didn’t feel the need to address it. And there are instances like these, where there’s an overarching thing going on, up until the moment when the writers feel they wrote themselves into a corner and suddenly pull the plug on the whole thing. The Chang/Kevin subplot is another perfectly good example, with the whole Changnesia aspect to it, and the City College tease from the finale which doesn’t go anywhere. Also, having an episode where we’ve been given origin stories to our study group felt a bit tacked on, even if there were some laughs to be had in some of those moments. On the other hand, Troy and Abed switching bodies felt like something akin to the pair’s antics and was really nicely done and there is a Halloween episode in there which does really stand out. Ahora potenciado todo por el uso de clubes de la Premier League, no solo es branding es funcional a la historia.
