This is Sapphire. She's only 43 pounds, is about three years old, and is #adoptable. When I first met Sapphire, she came up to me with a calm wiggly body, threw her paws up in the air as if she was going to jump on me but at the last minute, decided not to jump, and just calmly waited while I put her collar and harness on. Don't worry, once she got to know me, she definitely jumped on me. And then we stood by the car for a good 15 minutes while I tried to negotiate with Sapphire to get inside the car. I tried to explain to her that a fun walk was on the other side, but she was very hesitant to believe me. Eventually, I convinced her that the car would not eat her, and I was able to lift her in. On the car ride to the park, Sapphire held it together, but she did not have the best time. Once we were at the park, you never would have guessed this calm girl was ever anxious a moment in her life. She walked with a cool, calm confidence and seemed to really know where she was going. Though she was happy to change directions if I asked her to. Later on our walk, I brought out the ball and the long line. Sapphire has a real good chomp on her. I was surprised when she gently let me take the ball to through again considering how much she loved chomping down on it. She got bored of fetch pretty quickly, so we continued with walking. Sapphire found some geese that she desperately wanted to chase and was definitely frustrated that she was attached to me. She didn't lose her cool too much though and I was even able to call her off of the geese with the promise of some chicken. This girl wants nothing more than to climb up in someones lap, give kisses, and receive scritches. She appears to be house trained as she blessed me with the most gigantic poop right when we got to the park. This is Courage. Courage is about two year old, is hilarious, and is #adoptable Not even five minutes after loading Courage up into my car and buckling him in, he somehow wormed his way underneath my car seat hammock and made it to the floor. He shoved his fluffy face onto my centre console, said hi, and then crawled back up on to the top of the hammock. Courage was a little stressed in the car on the way to the park, but was willing to eat the treats that I continuously tossed into the back of the car to keep him entertained. When we got to the park, Courage was very much ready to get out of the car. When I unbuckled his seat belt, he was leaning so hard to get out that he tumbled out with zero grace, landed upside down, shook himself off, and we were happily on our way. At the park, Courage was clearly quite worried at first, consistently scanning his surroundings. That was until we found holes. This dude loves holes! He excitedly wanted to shove his nose in every hole he found and dig around a bit. Much doggery was had. It was clear that Courage through leashes were stupid (though he didn't actually pull very much) and really wanted to run. So we ran. It's so hard not to laugh at this happy dude running. He ran so joyously, spinning in circles, and eventually tumbling over his own feet. I got it on video. Enjoy! He was clearly not bothered by his tumble at all. Later, I brought out the tennis ball. This guy absolutely loved chasing the ball and tossing it in the air. Fetch wasn't really a concept he understood, but he was so stoked when the ball showed up. I'm honestly not sure if he knew that it was me that was throwing the ball or if he thought that it just randomly appeared on the ground sometimes and that was exciting, but either way, he had fun. I'm happy to report that when it was time to go back, Courage confidently hopped up into the car and relaxed for the entire drive. Remember Ranger? Wellllll you're gonna see more of him in our stories I'm fostering @goforranger ! Of course I made him his own instagram! We are working with his remaining family to help him find a new home. Our current focus is decompressing from big life changes and slowly getting to know his personality. Ranger already loves spending time with Mindy, going on hikes, taking naps on the couch, and is being introduced to crating. We're keeping a GPS on him to see what his activity is like and keep tabs on his location. I'm looking forward to finding out what kind of family he will excel with! This is sweetheart Sally. She's about 3 years old and is #adoptable Sally is the most confident dog I have picked up from the shelter yet. When I held out her collar, Sally intuitively slipped her own head through. She happily put on her own harness, let me buckle it up for her, and stepped out that door without a care in the world. She hopped up into my car like she owned the place and we were off to the park. When we got to the quiet park I had intended to bring Sally to, the gate for the park was locked because of all the flooding and distruction that has happened recently in California. So we turned around and walked down a super busy trail instead. At one point, there was a hiking group of 50 people that walked by and Sally just stood there calmly and watched them. While walking, Sally had to inspect every single patch of grass to make sure they passed the sniff test. She ignored most people and dogs because they grass was way more interesting. If you choose to take Sally home, be prepared to be stopped by many people who want to tell you how beautiful she is (I mean, just look at her!) and ask what kind of dog she is. Sally's incredible eyes get her a lot of attention. This girl was as gentle as they come and was as cool as a cucumber. Bonus points: Sally knows how to sit and likes to jump up on benches for cute photos. This is Olivia. She is under two years old, is #adoptable and in urgent need of #rescue or #foster due to her anxiety within the shelter. Her final date before euthanasia is January 17, 2023. When I first met Olivia, she was very nervous about me coming anywhere near her. She warmed up to me really quickly when she found out that I had chicken in my pocket. This girl is obsessed with pocket chicken. She still wasn't super stoked about me putting a collar and harness on her, but was able to follow the pocket chicken as a lure and put her head through the collar eventually. Once she was all leashed up, Olivia nervously followed me out the door. When I opened the door to my car, Olivia considered jumping in, but wasn't super confident about it. I tossed some chicken into the back, and she jumped up happily. Seriously, this girl loves her treats. When we got to the park, Olivia walked really well on the leash but was clearly quite nervous about all the sights and sounds. Her tail was often tucked as she cautiously sniffed her surroundings. She did love chasing after treats tossed into the grass though and even worked her sniffer a little bit to find them. One thing both Olivia and I enjoyed together was bird watching. She would happily stand and watch the birds in the pond for as long as your would let her. Everything changed for this nervous girl when I put her on a long-line and brought out a ball. Immediately, she was bouncing around with this new found confidence and joy. She even practiced her parkour skills off of my belly to catch a tossed ball. She was surprisingly good at fetch and would even drop the ball for me to throw again. Even after the ball was put away, Olivia was thriving with this new found confidence. She joyously pranced around like the puppy she is and had great fun playing tug with the "adopt me" sign that was attached to her leash. Denali is doing really well with learning to watch other dogs (and squirrels, too!) calmly. Sometimes her behavior is a victim of โtrigger stackingโ, the phenomenon in which a bunch of little triggers add up to be more than the individual can currently handle (like when you have a lousy morning of a bunch of little things going wrong, and then one final thing makes you lose your temper!).
