If you are not adequately represented in the world you live in, its hard to aspire to greatness because there is no example to follow. I believe everyone should be represented at every level in all levels of society, media, in the government..."⁠ ⁠ Slide 3: "At learning with Ez, representation is at the heart of everything we do. For a very long time our communities have been underserved and under represented in story telling. You only need to look at the stats from CLPE to understand what I mean."⁠ ⁠ Slide 4: Annual reporting shows an increase in the number of children’s books published featuring a minority ethnic character... at 4% in 2017 and 20% in 2021. ⁠ ⁠ Slide 5: But these statistics show there is still a long way to go, with the report making it clear that "characters with agency, who are identifiable, relatable, nuanced, varied and are central to the narrative" are still lacking throughout early years publications.⁠ ⁠ Slide 6: The percentage of books published with a main character from a racially minoritised background has risen year on year but remains extremely low, at just 9% in 2021.⁠ ⁠ Slide 7: "Through our characters and imagery, we show that ⁠ children from diverse backgrounds are also important and shouldn't be left out of the narrative. Nov 2022 - a docu-mural project with @alonglastname Over a few weeks last year, I worked with Amanda Phingbodhipakkiya while she painted "We Are Tomorrow." The mural is painted on the front of the US Embassy in Bangkok. For this project, I captured the making of the art, its details, and the story of how it came to be. I took and processed thousands of photos, so it was nearly impossible to choose just these details and key moments of making the mural and its purpose, the community interaction, and a special visit from @secondgentleman . Thank you @alonglastname , @usembassybkk , @whitehouse , US State Department staff, and everyone else that stopped by the mural or was otherwise involved. I loved this project and learned a lot about…everything beyond what I could've imagined 😀 If you're living in or visiting Bangkok, you can check it out on Wireless Road, right next to Lumphini Park. "We Are Tomorrow" depicts a group of bold women and non-binary people with bright eyes toward the horizon. They are shaping space, forging new paths, and working towards our shared futures, framed against an expanse of vibrant blooms and a bright sky. The mural was inspired by Amanda's conversations with everyday Thai women and non-binary youth about what it means to stand in their power—independence, change, safety, knowledge, respect, and contribution. I actually worked as a Kiosk Associate at @fashionweek the last time the event was hosted at @lincolncenter . It was cool to experience the energy up close especially for a woman who used to watch the shows on @wnyc as a young girl.
