An Easter dish
As our grandmas would say, ‘peixe não puxa carroça’ (‘fish don’t pull wagons’), a portuguese proverb that means to state a generous meat dish will keep you satisfied longer and give you more energy to work (pull a wagon). It is probably related to how fish is more easily digested by humans than meat.
This lamb recipe is definitely peasants’ food and typical from the Alentejo Region where today, several persons still remember when it was cooked in the open fields by shepards, around a fire, on special occations. Think of a hearty meat stew, a true grandma meal that keeps you filled for hours after lunch with the family on Easter sunday. It’s juicy, tender, imbued with spices and herbs! Easy to do and delicious!
