This from the Philosopher's Path in Kyoto, Japan.
The path itself has a host of temples, shrines, and the like. It's actually a big loop of a path that winds through part of the city. It's not all poetry on display, there are some regular houses, shops, and the like there too. What was interesting to me, besides the obvious, is that the path is not always marked very well. We came to several "corners" where we were all like, "huh. What like, do we go up this way?"
Had we been in the US, why there'd be signs galore. Not only signs but carnival barkers selling wieners on a stick, t-shirts, and all kinds of stuff. There would be tickets involved, maybe balloons, elephants, and face painting for the kids too. Actually, given what I know about the Philosopher's Path, there might even be a monster truck rally on Sundays, but not at the time on Sunday when we are supposed to go to church because, well, you know, "HEATHENS!" Zoom, zoom!
Instead, in Japan, we got a winding path through nature that was not well marked in spots.
Somehow, I managed to find my way back home again.
