The NMC and the GMC are currently accepting two English language exams: the academic International English Language Test System (IELTS) and the Occupational English Test (OET). In both test, you will be assessed in four domains; speaking, writing, listening and reading. We preferred the OET test, because in this test you will learn specific aspects of medical and nursing English and this prepares you optimally for your new work environment. We advise you to have a look on Youtube for tutorials. You can also take an IELTS or OET course, a mentor will guide you and assess your progress and in those courses, you may also undertake a mock exam. The preparation time depends on your current level of English. We would also suggest you book the IELTS or OET test on the computer instead of a paper exam.
