The unmarried women wear mantillas holding their hair up with large combs and flamenco dresses with lots of lace. They are children of the exclusive Real Maestranza association. The Feria de Abril or April Fair is held two weeks after Easter Sunday and is considered one of Spain’s premier bullfight festivals, attracting the leading matadors and the finest toros bravos bulls. The Real Maestranza de Caballería originated in the 17th century as a guild or brotherhood of nobles and aristocrats who were skilled in horsemanship and military arts. Its purpose was to train and maintain a cavalry force for the defense of the Spanish crown. Over time, its military role diminished, and it became more focused on promoting equestrian traditions, fostering cultural activities, and supporting charitable causes.
