My teeny coauthor and I recently finished reading, ‘The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse’ by Charlie Mackesy. Actually, we’ve read it twice now. It’s such a beautiful little book! Not just for the artwork, but for the wonderful messages in it. It’s not like anything I’ve really read before. There’s no aggressive plot or a lot of description, and at times I really had to squint to read some of the writing, but it is just such a sweet book. The messages in it are definitely something I wish I’d heard when I was younger, and I hope my little guy remembers them… I hope *I* remember them. It’s such a soothing story that, as I read it to my little coauthor, he quiets right down, relaxes, and falls asleep. This last read through, we renamed the Mole “Tank” because he loves tanks, and it made him really happy. Honestly, the Mole is my favorite character. He makes me so happy. Who doesn’t love cake?! And like the Mole (Tank), it’s when I’m surrounded by my little family that I realize, ‘I’ve discovered something better than cake.’ This little book is all about what is most important in life, about being kind and patient with others and with yourself and finding peace, and that home is not a place, it’s the people you love—the ones that make life meaningful. I highly recommend this book. Il 'agit de "Dark Rise" de @c.s.pacat ! Puisqu'il faut commencer quelque part allons-y, oui, je l'admets, ce roman est loin d'être parfait de A à Z. Et vous savez quoi ? Je m'en fiche puisque j'ai passé un excellent moment de lecture sans souffler et lever les yeux au ciel toute les cinq minutes ! Et oui, pourtant c'est de la YA, comme quoi 😉 Déjà, c'est un roman avec plusieurs POVs et j'adore ça ! Je trouve que ça donne beaucoup de rhythme au récit et ça m'a aidé à apprécier les personnages plus profondément. Je me suis également impliqué emotionnellement avec eux et j'ai même versé ma petite larme à plusieurs moments, et c'est assez rare pour que je le souligne. L'univers est super bien construit et j'ai beaucoup aimé l'inspiration venant de la mythologie Arthurienne ! Et pour la fin vous vous doutez bien que je n'ai absolument rien vu venir comme d'habitude ! Je suis restée sur le cul et ça devrait être interdit d'écrire des choses pareil non mais ! AD - REVIEW COPY One For All by Lillie Lainoff is a genderbent retelling of The Three Musketeers featuring a heroine with chronic illness. This book was wonderful, and I had such a good time with it. Tania is a young woman who feels strong with a sword in her hand, but she knows everyone else just sees her as a sick girl. Her father saw something in her though and trained her the way he would a fellow Musketeer. But when his body is found, his will asks Tania to attend a finishing school in Paris. She thinks this sounds wrong, but once she gets there, she discovers that the girls are being trained as Musketeers. With her new sisters, Tania hopes to find out what really happened to her father. I'm not the biggest fan of historical fiction, but I really enjoyed this one. It was such an easy read, and I adored how important the found family aspect was. These girls had such good relationships, and it was so fun. I was a big fan of one of the side ships. It was sapphic and so obvious early on, but I loved it. I also liked that we had a disabled protagonist. Tania has POTs, and though at the time it wasn't something they understood, she was still trying to live her life the way she wanted to. I don't really know much about POTs, but it was obviously a nightmare for both Tania and Lillie Lainoff herself. It'll be wonderful for readers who also have this chronic illness to see people dealing with POTs kicking ass. Overall, I had a wonderful time with this book. Jane Eyre is a firm favourite of mine. When I was a young pup, I loved reading about Jane's time at Lowood school. As I became an old and shaggy dog (am kidding, my poodle fur remains pristine), I started appreciating the book as a whole upon re-reading. And I now really appreciate the interactions between Jane and Mr Rochester - what is essentially the predecessor to modern-day romance novel banter. I still haven't read all the Bronte novels so need to tackle that! ❔Czytacie thrillery domestic noir? “Dorota od lat żyje pod jednym dachem z mężem despotą, stwarzając na zewnątrz pozory normalności. Kobieta obmyśla w tajemnicy plan uwolnienia się od agresywnego partnera. Jakub i Alicja wybierają się na zagraniczne wczasy w celu ratowania małżeństwa. Na miejscu zawierają znajomość z tajemniczą parą. Z czasem wchodzą z nimi w nietypowy układ, który wywraca ich życie do góry nogami. Osiemnastoletnia Nadia spotyka się z biologiczną matką, która porzuciła ją tuż po porodzie. Nie wie, że dopuszczając kobietę do swojego życia, ściąga niebezpieczeństwo na swoich najbliższych. Teraz każdy zrobi wszystko, by jego mroczne sekrety nigdy nie wyszły na jaw…” Książka zapowiadała się nieźle, ma dobre opinie na lubimyczytać, zdobyła nawet nagrodę Książki Roku 2021… a jednak coś mi w niej brakowało. Nie będę krytykować, bo nie jestem obeznaną czytelniczką thrillerów, moja wiedza ogranicza się do kilku pozycji B.A. Paris, ale niestety Marcel Moss i “Mroczne sekrety” mnie nie porwały. Nie przypadł mi do gustu styl autora, historia toczyła się jakoś zbyt szybko i chaotycznie, a do tego wkradło się kilka rzucających się w oczy błędów redaktorskich.  Moja ocena: 2.5/5  PS. Książka ma oznaczenie “tylko dla dorosłych” i dobrze, bo poruszane tam tematy wykraczały nieraz nawet poza moją strefę komfortu. Kynään tarttuminen on ollut kuitenkin hankalaa: Olin nuorempana aika lahjakaskin kuvataiteilija ja haaveilin jopa ammatista kuvataiteen parissa. Kun lukio loppui ja sen myötä kuvataiteen opiskelu, myös taiteilu jäi kokonaan. Ja kun ei piirrä, taidot ruostuvat, ja niitä harvoja yrityksiä, mitä olen joskus tehnyt, seuraa turhautuminen, kun tietää, että on joskus osannut paljon paremmin. Kynnys piirtämiseen  on kasvanut. Nykyään suuntaan lähinnä kirjoittamiseen sen luovuuden ja luomisen vimman, joka nuorena sai minut piirtämään ja maalaamaan. Kaikesta huoiimatta onnistuin eilen nauttimaan tämän piirroksen tekemisestä. Ja vaikka jälki on aika kömpelöä, sain loihdittua tunnelman, jonka taikapiiriin sulkeuduin piirtäessäni. • J'AI ÉCOUTÉ • 🇫🇷 LADY ASTRONAUT #1 : VERS LES ÉTOILES, de Mary-Robinette Kowal, narré par Clémentine Domptail, édité par Audiolib (14 heures et 15 minutes) Merci @netgalleyfrance pour la confiance ! Un roman que j'ai dévoré en audiobook ! ¤ J'ai énormément aimé cette lecture qui aborde un domaine que j'apprécie tout particulièrement : l'astrophysique. Bon, en fait ça aborde plusieurs domaines scientifiques dont l'ingénierie, les mathématiques, l'astrophysique, la physique, etc... Mais bref, j'aime énormément les sciences (et ça aurait été mon domaine d'études et de travail si je n'avais pas changé d'orientation). Ce premier tome revisite les années 1950 et plus si une météorite avait frappé la terre et détruit une grande partie de la côte Est des États-Unis. On suit principalement Elma, qui est une personne que l'on peut qualifié de génie et qui est pilote, qui va essayer de convaincre les militaires que la météorite n'a pas été envoyée par les Russes et de ne pas riposter. En essayant de comprendre comment cette météorite a pu s'écraser sur Terre, les conséquences que cela apporte à la planète, on suit également une intrigue féministe dans laquelle Elma va se battre pour la place des femmes dans le domaine de l'Espace. Elma va essayer de se battre pour de nombreuses causes. On va parler écologie, féminisme, racisme, et encore d'autres thématiques fortes et actuelles, même si notre réalité est différente de ce roman. On aborde aussi des sujets plus psychologiques comme la douance, l'anxiété, les relations interpersonnelles dans ce premier tome. Bref, c'est un roman intelligent, qui aborde dans une réalité parallèle des thématiques de l'actualité. 乀reseña Si os gustan los vampiros y buscáis algo diferente dentro del género, definitivamente tenéis que leer “Ciertas cosas oscuras”. En esta novela Silvia Moreno-García nos presenta una Ciudad de México alternativa, donde los vampiros existen y la población resiste a la invasión que desde hace años asola el resto del país. En ella se conocerán Atl, una vampiresa de origen azteca, y Domingo, un joven de la calle que sobrevive como recolector de basura.  Lo que más me ha gustado del libro ha sido encontrarme con todo un abanico de subespecies de vampiros que, para mi sorpresa, están tomadas de criaturas mitológicas pertenecientes a distintas civilizaciones. Cada una tiene sus propias características y se alimenta de forma diferente (algunas os sorprenderán), pero es también en esto donde la novela se me queda corta. La autora simplemente se centra en tres de ellas y las otras se mencionan de pasada. Creo sinceramente que es algo que tenía muchísimo potencial y que se ha quedado en la superficie.  Además de esto, no he logrado empatizar con ninguno de los protagonistas tanto como me hubiera gustado ni creerme del todo su relación, y eso me ha lastrado un poco la lectura. Me ha faltado algo ahí.  A favor, diré también que las escenas de lucha entre vampiros son bastante visuales, y eso me ha encantado.  En resumen, "Ciertas cosas oscuras" es un neo-noir, como la propia autora lo denomina, muy entretenido y original que supone un soplo de aire fresco dentro del género vampírico. ❝El problema es cuando cometes el error de olvidar el hambre. Hej! ❤️ Często wzruszacie się podczas czytania książek? 📚„Jesteś moim zawsze" - M. Leighton”📚 ✨„Wspieramy się nawzajem, podnosimy po upadku, ratujemy się, gdy wymaga tego sytuacja. To prawdziwa miłość.”✨ Nate i Lena są szczęśliwym małżeństwem, jednakże na ich drodze staje potwór. Postawiona diagnoza daje im do zrozumienia, że nie pozostało wiele wspólnego czasu. Wyruszają w wymarzoną podróż do Europy, starają się nie myśleć o chorobie i zatracić się w chwili aby mieć jak najlepsze wspomnienia. Mimo walki i niepowodzeń podczas wycieczki zdarza się prawdziwy cud, który nadaje ich życiu siłę i nowy sens. Książkę skończyłam wczoraj i na samą myśl o niej mam łzy w oczach. Szczerze to ciężko mi o niej cokolwiek napisać, gdyż nadal targają mną emocje. Była ona po prostu wspaniała, nie potrafię doszukać się w niej ani jednej wady. Przepełniona bólem, cierpieniem, ale też ogromną miłościom, wsparciem i nadzieją. Relacja między bohaterami mimo trudności była wręcz idealna. Podziwiam Nate za oddanie swojej żonie, był on ogromnym oparciem dla niej mimo iż sam miewał gorsze dni. Lena pokazała jak silna potrafi być kobieta i że dla najbliższych jest w stanie zrobić wszystko. Książką pokazuje nam jak ulotna jest chwila, jak życie jest niesprawiedliwe oraz w jaki sposób choroba może nam odebrać wszystko w ułamku sekundy. Jednak mimo tego wszystkiego warto mieć nadzieję i dbać o każdy moment który mamy okazję przeżyć z bliskimi. Poznana historia uderzyła mnie prosto w serce i roztrzaskała je na milion kawałków. Wylałam przez nią morze łez, ale pozwoliła mi również uświadomić sobie, że nie warto okładać marzeń na później. Jest to powieść od Julki, która wywołała we mnie bezapelacyjnie najwięcej emocji. Książka opowiada o Kylie Morgan, która pewnego piątkowego wieczoru została porwana przez potwora. Michael Harrington, zafascynowany dziewczyną, zamknął ją w swojej rezydencji. Mężczyzna potrafi posunąć się do wszystkiego, żeby zatrzymać Kylie przy sobie, nawet jeżeli będzie musiał ją zniszczyć. Od razu chciałabym zaznaczyć, że książka NIE JEST dla każdego. Porusza ona wiele tematów, które nie są przeznaczone dla młodszych czytelników. Kylie to kobieta, która na samym początku ma zwykłe, niczym nie wyróżniające się życie. Gdy Michael zauważa ją, jej życie zmienia się od 180 stopni. To, jaką zmianę przechodzi bohaterka, sprawiło, że podczas czytania płakałam z bezsilności. Kylie przez Michaela powoli staje się cieniem samego siebie. Podczas czytania bardzo jej kibicowałam i liczyłam na to, że się nie podda. Michael był okropnym potworem, który manipulując zdobywał zaufanie ofiary, by później to wykorzystać. Gdy sprawiał ból Kylie, odczuwał przyjemność, co jeszcze utwierdza nas w przekonaniu, że bohater był okropnym człowiekiem. Julia świetnie wykreowała jego postać. Przez całą książkę targało mną wiele emocji. Eventually we started giving each other the symbol of the sun and moon as both part of this same analogy and because of our names, interests and other factors. When making this account we wanted a name that represented our two selves in balance and the day and night are balanced during an equinox. ☆Why we made a Bookstagram: We made a bookstagram a bit more than a year after Sol moved away and we no longer lived in the same city. The Perfect Assassin/Doc Savage 1 By: James Patterson Rating: 4/5 I received an ARC of this book for my honest opinion.   Would you like to be transformed into the best you? What if I told you would be forced to endure physical and mental training sessions… oh and the best part you had no choice in the matter, you were kidnapped and forced to endure all of that but in the end wow.   I won’t lie and say that I loved this from the start because I didn’t. I thought it started off a little slow but about half way it started to really develop the plot more and started going strong after that. I will say that it was fast-paced after that and I didn’t put the book down, I wanted to know more about the assassins and why they came after Meed. I thought the world building and suspense of the book was done great and really leaves the readers wanting to know more about what will come next for the Doc and Meed after everything. I loved the characters in this book, and I enjoyed the multiple POV’s and the flashbacks to Meeds childhood and teen years. I really liked how at least 1 of the characters were relatable, doc and I found Meed easy to connect with. I do want to read the next book of this series when it comes out. Le récit nous emmène dans le secret de la salle des délibérations, où les débats font rage entre jurés hommes et femmes, juristes et civils. Barbarie ou coup de folie ? Crime ou juste vengeance ? Mathilde a-t-elle eu raison d’agir de la sorte ? Ce roman de Mathieu Menegaux est marqué temporellement, dans une ère post-Covid et post #MeToo. Le débat résonne donc particulièrement à notre époque. Mais étonnamment, ce qui m’a beaucoup plus intéressée, c’est qu’il nous décrit le fonctionnement d’un jury d’assises, de l’intérieur. On assiste au délibéré entre les jurés et aux règles qui le sous-tendent. Les éléments constitutifs d’un procès sont décrits, et c’est passionnant à découvrir pour les non-initiés. Ce récit m’a d’ailleurs rappelé le film Douze hommes en colère. Un roman qui se lit d’une traite, grâce à son écriture percutante et au rythme que Mathieu Menegaux sait instiller dans ses histoires. Shades Of Magic - V.E. Schwab REVIEW ••• ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 ••• This is a review for the entire Shades Of Magic trilogy with (little to) no spoilers. The books in the series are 1. A Darker Shade Of Magic 2. A Gathering Of Darkness 3. A Conjuring Of Light ••• ~ Synopsis ~ Swipe to read the synopsis of the first book in the series. ••• ~ My Opinion ~ Wow. Each of these books were pretty good alone, but together, they were incredible. In ‘A Darker Shade Of Magic’ we really get to know the world with the different Londons, the magic systems, etc. We also meet a diverse cast of intriguing characters who we’ll all get to know very well thanks to the multiple POV. The plot itself is really interesting and the book is pretty fast paced. But the most incredible part about this first novel is without a doubt the setting. The entire Magic system, the Antari, and the different Londons are just extraordinary to read about. I’ve never come across anything like it. The second novel (A Gathering Of Darkness) introduces a bunch of new characters and strengthens the relationships of the ones we’ve previously met. Aside from that it builds up the tension and ends on an excruciating cliffhanger. But it is really the third book (A Conjuring Of Light) that makes this series so, impossibly good. Everything about this book from the plot, to the characters, to the setting is just magnificent. This novel is truly something out of this world. I cannot recommend it more. But beware that, by reading this, your mind will be blown, your heart will be broken, and nothing will ever be the same again. ••• ~ Quotes ~ “Kell wore a very peculiar coat. This is the stack that has been getting me through the past couple days. It's day 63 on strike and we're rapidly approaching 90 calendar days, which is...something. It's a date in the calendar. 🐍BOOK REVIEW🐍 Title: Stone Blind Author: @nataliehaynesauthor Publisher: @harperaudio Run Time: 8hr 40min Pub Date: 2/7/2023 Goodreads Rating: 4.00 My Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 📣 This book is being released in the U.S. tomorrow and I am shouting from the top of Mount Olympus: Do yourself a huge favor and read it!!!!! 🎧 If you can get your hands on the audio performance by none other than the author herself: DO! This has now become my absolute favorite audio performance of all time. I loved it so much, that as soon as it ended, I immediately went back to the beginning and began listening a second time. I am currently 60% through my reread. 🕸 The story is complex, with many tales of Greek mythology so perfectly woven together that even Athene (or Athena if you prefer) would be envious! 🏺 It is told from several POV and each voice is better than the last. They tell the story with such delicious vehemence and humor, that you can’t help but continue reading. It’s honestly difficult to pick a favorite, though I think I have settled on one: Gorgoneion. If you aren’t familiar (and I don’t think I’ll be spoiling anything by telling you Medusa’s head is still severed from her body by the end), Gorgoneion is Medusa’s head once Perseus decapitates the Gorgon. Gorgoneion breaks the fourth in a most humorous way, repeatedly berating the reader for feeling sympathy for Perseus, the “hero”. 🧟‍♀️ The best part about this story is how it shines a new light on Medusa and the other women of Greek Mythology. It shows how the person telling the tale can influence the listener causing them to view someone as a monster, who perhaps was actually just an innocent victim. It also follows the trend I’ve been enjoying so much lately, of showing how women have influenced events in ways unknown because the stories often tend to be passed on from a male POV. It. Is.
