Is TBT still a thing? Doing 50 loads of laundry today and decided this was worthy of a throw back to my very first project-the laundry room. It’s a skinny room and we needed extra storage on the wall opposite the w/d. I saw @ourhideawayhome glam up a Hemnes shoe cabinet and knew it was exactly what I wanted to do. I wanted to maximize the wall so I merged 2 together and put my fave Target baskets on top. I need to state at no time was I going for historical accuracy. My only desire is take out my 1870/80s Japanesque sensibilities on a once unassuming space. The wallpaper went up last week, and im In love. As for the board & batten, it took all of two afternoons, and I only cried a little. Geoff, ma bestie, did all of the painted panels to reflect the future palette. We wanted to give the room a sense of history and substance by layering the walls with colors and textures. For now, I am taking a break from this space because there are so many piles of period knickknacks that have flooded every surface and even spilled over into the bathroom linen closet. Once we set the room officially, I'll post photos of all of the nonessential items, and anyone who wants to come shop will be invited to do so. The ceiling medallion is next as the chandelier i have isn't right, and im still shopping around. I'll post new photos as we go along. 1 day, 2 walls!! Wednesday we completed two amazing outcomes for this Naperville family. The first wall was our popular “starburst” design in the den/entryway. 03.23.23 - Today is countertop template day! I only got this one quick picture of Jerome doing his thing. But, I am super excited we are to this point! To me, this signifies the beginning of the end. Once countertops are in, the pretty stuff can happen! All the plumbing fixtures, lighting fixtures, hardware, appliances, etc can be installed. The pulls and knobs are all put in bags for each area they go in and are labeled. I had to order a few more because I changed up a few cabinets and hadn't made any adjustments for those in my numbers, so I hurried and did that. Lonnie and guys came for the last concrete pour. I can barely wait to see what these two sidewalks look like when completely cured! Stone for the front of the house, the fireplace, and the kitchen backsplash should be delivered early next week. 03.22.23 - Today is cabinet day! I have been waiting for us to reach this day for so long! Of course...it had to snow today. You're probably sick of always seeing my first picture be a picture of the house with snow on it. Me too, actually. I try to stay positive and I really do appreciate God's blessing us with the snow our valley desperately needs. I just wish we could catch a break for a few weeks so we could get some major things like the stone on the outside of our home and the exterior paint done. However, when I woke up and saw it was snowing, my hopes were dashed that cabinets would actually come today. Luckily, it stopped snowing, became BEAUTIFUL (but muddy) and the cabinet guys arrived shortly after 1030. A cabinet had fallen over in the trailer and gouged a few drawers on my pantry cabinet so those drawers need to be replaced. There are a few other things that need adjusting or replacing as well, but at least these are in and ready for our countertops to be templated! I am so happy I did the rift sawn oak for the island. It gives the kitchen the warmth I wanted to add without adding a ton of wood color. We did have one other issue that was found during install and that is that the drywallers punctured the waterline in our laundry room. So, those cabinets will be pulled back out after template so the issue can be fixed and then reinstalled. I had this happen in my last house too. Everyone vies for that stud and sometimes someone misses. It happens. It will get fixed. Kirk came and cut out the flooring in the kitchen where the toe kicks go. We had to lay the flooring and then cut because the toe kicks in the kitchen weren't able to be fully placed in time. LOVE my laundry room sink! It is exactly the feeling I wanted in there! Lonnie came and prepped for our final concrete delivery to finish our front sidewalk and also do the side sidewalk that I just recently added so we don't wear a path in our future grass. Things are coming along!

03.21.23 - Where is this water coming from? That was the question we were asking this weekend. We happened to be out in the house in the master bathroom and saw water in the tub drain. We weren't sure where it was coming from and we certainly didn't want it coming up any further and getting under our floors! Made a call to Kirk, borrowed a shop vac, suctioned it all out and then today the guy who did our septic came out and connected the house drains to the septic. The condensation throughout the house, from running the heater now for a while, had backed up in the drain and had no where to go because the drain hadn't been hooked to the septic. Duke got that fixed and all was clear. He also moved our cleanout we use for the trailer closer to the house after fixing it. Someone had hit it and broken it. It snowed a lot this morning and then in the afternoon, it stopped and melted. Another storm in the Snowmageddon 2023 book! I read something that said, “if you’re going to splurge on anything during the home build process…splurge on wall trim because it makes the biggest impact.” I had no idea how accurate that statement would be until now! We are officially in the final weeks of the building process and it’s been amazing seeing our GA home come together. Not saying that I haven’t lost countless hours of sleep contemplating my design choices but seeing it all come to life has made it all worth it. 03.20.23 - After the rain comes the sun. In our case today, it was, after the cold comes the snow, then the rain, then the snow, then the rain, then the sun and ice cold wind, then the snow melts and you are given the gift of mud. I woke up today knowing it was probably going to snow, and sure enough, it did. Then it snowed more, then it rained, and so on and so on. It finally ended GOR-GEOUS outside! The sky was so blue, the beams were getting made, cows were grazing, and things were pretty good today. I am starting to go some what batty being in the trailer 24/7, but, for the most part, it's not been too bad being in here through the winter. Trevor came today to actually do the foyer beams. I really like them. They are going to look fantastic! We also got our porch and patio posts installed!!!!!! We have been waiting for this for a reallyyyyyy long time. The weather hasn't helped at all. But all is good... we have porch posts now, and things can start up again! I really like how they are not equidistant on the front porch! At first, I didn't think I would, but now that I see them in a full view picture, I know the engineer knew what he was doing! The weather was so crazy today! Look at how gorgeous those mountains are with the clouds down in front of them! 03.19.23 - Trevor came this weekend and finished up some siding things, built our X beams for the entry foyer, and also built our shutters! I wanted a very simple shutter style as there is enough going on already with the board and batten / lap, and rock. He made them put of left over cement fiberboard. Way to go using materials we have on hand! I can barely wait to see these babies painted! Jason also came at some point from Friday to now and laid out all of the switches, outlets, etc. I love the finish stuff....it's like you put on a dress to go out for the evening it's just not right until you put a little jewelry on!
