How do you stay organized at work?
I'm pretty old-school. One thing I couldn't live without is my Excel worksheet. I started using it when I first opened my business in 2016. It records all of my bookings and the information I need to manage those bookings. I also have a folder on my computer for each booking, filed within the travel supplier (Carnival, Celebrity, Pleasant Holidays, etc.). But ... like as I said, I'm old school and I also have a PAPER file folder for every client for each of their bookings. It's definitely overkill but, last year, my external hard drive died and I lost years of files. I saved all of my business information on that drive (taxes, payments, client vacation files, pictures!). So I don't take any chances anymore!
One of the new tools I'm using this year helps make sure I don't miss a due date for the final payment of someone's trip, or when I need to send a gift to their room or cabin, or any other reminder that helps me stay organized. I use a software program that gives me a task list for each booking and sends me an email reminder -- but I really am a visual person and, knowing that, I bought a big desktop calendar and I write all my reminders there as well. I can see a week at a glance and it helps me FEEL organized!
How about you? Any tricks you've found that work for you? Obviously, how we organize our business day depends a lot on the kind of work we do. But who knows? Maybe some will overlap. I'd love to hear your ideas!
