I’m fired up about the potential E-collar ban in SF because it’s backed by a nonsensical, emotional argument that threatens only responsible dog owners and trainers. This page is about my own experiences as a dog owner—what’s worked for me and Babs may not be right for another team. If you choose to not use an E-collar or a prong collar, I 100% respect that. “Train the dog in front of you” also means that if force-free training works for you and your dog(s)—fantastic! Some dogs are too sensitive for tool use and some dogs don’t need them, or you as a handler just don’t want to use them. What is the end goal of the ban? Is it to weed out bad dog trainers? Limit access to the tool? Limit animal abuse? Because if any of that is actually what the FF community is hoping to achieve, I imagine you’d be hard-pressed to find any reputable balanced trainer who disagrees. But that’s not the goal, and everyone knows that’s not the goal. If you’re hesitant about the E-collar and want to know more about how it can be used in an effective, humane way—I’m happy to engage in that dialogue. It was a great weekend, and nice to see everyone around the Bay – we made some new furry friends: First we met Thibaut, who was looking sporty in her pink jacket, and stopped by the pop-up store to pick up her favorite Lord Jameson Vegan Treats. Then, along came Prada, who is five years old, very friendly, and not camera-shy at all! Prada prefers Pet Wants Beef Heart Jerky, and seemed pretty excited to be getting a whole bag of it! Is it Monday already? 🤨 Azuki had her very first agility class over the weekend! I’m sure it’ll be no surprise for me to say I don’t think she’ll ever be one of those pups zooming through the obstacles 😅 Regardless, I’m so proud of how well she did! She had to be coaxed over the a-frame and other obstacles but after the first time, she had no difficulty going over them again (with the exception of the tunnel, still working on that one 😅). She didn’t get overly nervous or anxious at any point and we just allowed her to go at her own pace.
