@munchbunny and I called him Dec. 23rd to get his review on a new tracksuit I sent him. “Oh it’s beautiful thank you.” was the response. We laughed and I immediately ordered it for him in every color;). He usually hated every gift you gave him, but loved the gift of your time. He didn’t love every song I wrote , but was proud of the fact I wrote songs. He didn’t go around smiling all day , but made people smile. He’d ask me when I was gonna sell enough songs to afford jeans without holes;) He never bothered changing his style up , so it always seemed in style. He hated sitting still too long , but was always in a hurry to go home. He hated picture frames to get crooked, so they were screwed into place. He’d paint a closet with clothes still in it, or paint a ceiling fan and turn it on high spin to dry;) The house became the only physical location tied to childhood memories for me and he left the basement permanently decorated for Christmas. They don’t make ‘em like him anymore , grateful we had him in our lives… 95 year old Detroit cowboy. Love you papaw, we’ll miss you. ❤️

In my humble opinion …. I think we should pick five random country music fans across the country and ask them their favorite songs of the year to determine our award shows . I think our industry often over looks commercial success as if we should discount art if It’s consumed in mass quantities. My bet is if you let country music fans decide based on the soundtrack of their lives , more often than not this man’s songs would dominate their playlists.
