I’m still in shock. As I’m sure many others are too. I’m unable to find the right words… I’m still trying to comprehend how this charming, bright, determined energy of a woman is no longer with us. She’s been stolen away. We’ve been robbed. It’s not fair. I’m not finished. I’ll try to come back. This Empress deserves that we speak of her goodness but this shock is so heavy. My heartfelt sympathies go out to what I know is a huge number of friends and family. We have lost another champion and it hurts a great deal. So sad to hear about the passing of one of our greatest Black British-based Actresses- Mona Hammond. No words, for now… Except Rest In Power Dear Queen. 🙏🏾 —— These words below have been added the following day after the original post- A great bright light went out yesterday. So many of us were touched in such significant ways by this absolute diamond of a woman. If Mona was making an appearance in a production, you knew with huge confidence that tings were going to get interesting. Such cheeky, sexy, standout performances and she was able to skilfully flip these moments with such pathos. I was lucky enough to work with Mona in my younger days. She filled a room with infectious bubbles of joy and laughter. So this news of her passing brings a strange kind of sad. The goodness that Mona brought remains; her warmth, her strength, there was so much in it and so much has come out of her journey. She broke down so many doors, so many boundaries. She leaves us now but I’m sincerely grateful that she LIVED. Rest In Power Empress Mona Hammond
