In the past three weeks I’ve lost 3 great friends that meant the world to me. Mike Dekle, Bruce Burch and Jeff Carson. My thoughts and prayers go out to their families.
Mike Dekle was a great songwriter and one of my first co-writes when I moved to Nashville. He wrote many hit country songs by Kenny Rogers, Brantley Gilbert, Tracy Byrd, Joe Nichols and many others. It was honor to write with and call him a friend.
Bruce Burch was also a fantastic songwriter and also one of my first co-writes. He wrote many hits including two number ones for Reba with “It’s Your Call” and “Rumor Has It”. One of my favorite songs I ever co-wrote with Bruce was “Carolina Line” which was on my second album. Bruce and I kept in touch all of these years and he was always very supportive of my career.
Jeff Carson was a great friend and touring partner in the early 2000’s. Some of his hits included “The Car” and “Not On Your Love”. One of the nicest guys I ever met and the best singers I’ve ever heard. We spent many, many miles together on a tour bus and had great times on the Honky Tonk Tailgate Party Tour with our buddy Daryle Singletary.
All three of these guys were a huge part of my life and I appreciate them so much. Love you guys! Rhett
