ICYMI: Wednesday, we joined city and county officials to cut the ribbon on Northside Medical Snellville at The Grove at Towne Center. This brings a multispecialty surgery center, orthopedics, women's imaging, general surgery and physical therapy to the @cityofsnellville .
"This is an exciting day for Northside, and it's an exciting day for Snellville as well," said Debbie Bilbro, CEO of Northside Hospital Gwinnett and Northside Hospital Duluth.
We were honored to have Snellville Mayor Barbara Bender and Gwinnett County's @chairwomanhendrickson join us.
Thanks to Chattahoochee Nature Center for playing host to this and other great events! The nature preserve in Roswell is one of our many great community partners.
Meet Reagan! Reagan Layne was born July 11, 2023, to Allison and Greg Weaver at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
“I had our girl at Northside Cherokee and it was an amazing experience,” Allison said. “Everyone in Labor and Delivery went above and beyond to make sure we were well taken care of. I couldn’t have asked for a better team of nurses to help bring our little one into the world. Ana, Rachel, Troy and Lesley were exceptional and Dr. (Najia) Lawrence was so fun to have as my delivering doctor!”
Reagan measured 7 pounds, 3 ounces at birth. She measured 20 inches long.
Allison said the nurses at Northside make the birth experience special. “They make you feel like you’re the only patient in the hospital,” she said. “Everyone was so nice and reassuring – which was super helpful for me being a first-time mom. I was in labor for 15 hours and my nurses encouraged me and took great care of me every step of the way.”
Reagan is home now with her parents in Cartersville. Her grandparents are Jimmy and Lynette Cook of Bremen and David and Cindy Weaver of Dalton.
Allison’s advice to new parents on this #NewMomMonday: “Everyone tells you that having a new baby is ‘hard,’ but no one can really prepare you for how your life is going to flip upside down. Make sure to give yourself grace and take care of your physical and mental health. At the end of the day, you know what’s best for your baby and you can’t take care of them unless you take care of yourself.”

Meet Brooks! Brooks Jacob Krysiak was born March 7, 2023, at Northside Hospital Cherokee.
• Family: Parents, Mikayla and Jacob Krysiak of Rydal, Georgia; grandparents, Melissa Chadburn and Roy Beck of Lexington, North Carolina, and Kevin and Aga Jarrett of Dallas, Georgia.
• About the birth: Brooks’ birth wasn’t what Mikayla expected but she said it “was still so beautiful.” She was hospitalized at 31 weeks due to preeclampsia and delivered Brooks three weeks later via Cesarean section. Brooks spent 16 days in the Special Care Nursery, and Mikayla was able to visit him day and night. Mikayla said she had anxiety about her preeclampsia but found each nurse to be “nothing short of amazing”: “They comforted me through panic attacks and many rough days,” she said. “My delivery in itself was seamless. They talked me through everything in detail before they did it. As a first-time mom and not knowing what to expect, they helped me feel so at ease.”
• SCN: Mikayla said it was difficult to have a baby in the Special Care Nursery, commonly known as a neonatal intensive care unit, but the nurses eased her mind. “The NICU nurses came into his room to talk to me every day and took the time to explain all the different things that go into having a NICU baby and how to deal,” she said. “They helped me go home at night knowing he was in such good hands. The NICU doctors called me daily and gave me updates on Brooks up until the day he came home. My experience with Northside was absolutely amazing.”
• For moms: On #NewMomMonday, Mikayla’s advice is to “soak it all in.” She said she’s learned in just a few months that time flies by. “It goes by so quick,” she said. “It can be challenging. Forget about the laundry, the dishes — all those things will get done. Take the time to just love on your baby and enjoy every minute.”

Meet Rowan! She was born Jan. 17, 2023, to Marla and Nick Ward of Newnan.
“My delivery at Northside was special because this is my second home,” Marla said. She’s been a registered nurse at Northside Hospital for 13 years and currently is the nurse clinician on the float pool at Northside Atlanta.
“It was a unique experience to be on the other side of things as the patient instead of being the nurse,” she said. “I had the most wonderful care, and everyone was so kind to us. As a med/surg nurse, I don’t always relate to my patients and what they are going through firsthand as I may not have experienced what they are going through that led them to be in the hospital. In my stay in Labor and Delivery and Family Centered Care, most of my nurses were also mothers, so it was special to connect with them when we began our new journey in parenthood, as they had been in my shoes before.
“The shared experiences helped me to feel more comfortable as I navigated birth and the first few days with my daughter.”
Rowan Nicolette weighed 4 pounds, 14 ounces, at birth. She measured 18.25 inches.
Marla’s advice on #NewMomMonday: “Don’t blink! Soak it all in because before you know it, here comes the next milestone and each one is just as exciting as the last!”
