The first session with @lennykravitz was in LA arranged by my friend and his stylist, Arianne Phillips. Lenny came to the shoot in full force but also very sick. I had prelit and already arranged for Lenny to be standing in the middle of the pool, which was not ideal for someone with a 102 fever. The shoot was a quick one and I thought probably our last… A few years later we connected again for a shoot but this time on his and my home turf in NYC. I had a studio on Grand Street and he lived a block away on Broome. Recently, Lenny reminded me that after the shoot I asked him to help me move a sofa into my apartment. That definitely cemented our collaborations for the following years. Wishing you a happy and healthy birthday brother - I need a little assistance on my dresser when you’re back in town. XO
When capturing @theweeknd for @vanityfair , we worked to find special moments throughout the home. He’s a visual artist and a creative collaborator so that made it easy to see where we wanted to take the session… For this first shot, I wanted to capture an intimate moment of Abel playing the piano so we kept it super simple and stripped down. Our most elaborate shot was this one at the pool. We debated whether to shoot this at the indoor or outdoor pool but ultimately chose this location to create more cinematic lighting. Enjoy, MS. When planning for this cover with Radhika and the VF team, we wanted the images to feel cinematic while still giving way to these intimate moments with Abel. There were many amazing ideas to choose from but my mind kept going back to the poetry of Abel’s lyrics while relating to his love of film. We couldn’t have planned it better as our day magically fell into place. Abel is a dream collaborator with creativity that is impossible to capture in a one day shoot…plus we even had a guest appearance from his doberman, Caesar. A huge thank you to the entire team. I hadn’t worked with Rachel McAdams since she graced our booth at the Vanity Fair Oscars party. After seeing her film Disobedience, I had been looking forward to a session together.
