I’ve been pretty non-existent on social media for the last three months. A week after the shelter in place ordinance, my Mom was diagnosed with advanced stage Ovarian Cancer and I’ve been doing everything I can to be there for my Mom through a brutal regimen of chemo, an invasive debulking surgery, while battling health issues of my own due to the recent car accident and stress-induced gastro issues.
However, I didn’t want to forget to wish this guy a happy happy belated Father’s Day! (Mom was still in the hospital on Father’s Day and there was too much going on to celebrate on the day.) Better late than never!
This man has been THE most amazing nurse to Mom. He has been faithfully by her side every step of the way, waiting on her every hour, helping her manage pain, nausea, at-home shots, cleaning, cooking, encouraging her everyday to keep fighting, praying for her, taping inspirational quotes on the wall so she would see them upon waking, buying her coffee ice cream & flowers on the toughest days, telling her how beautiful she looks bald and how he’s convinced she’s a model! 40+ years together and he still looks at her like she hung the moon.
Daddy, thank you for being wonderfully unique you. Thank you for transcribing Charlie Parker solos with me, teaching me about composing, orchestration, conducting, how to ride a bike, to never give up even when a door slams in your face, to kick the bad boys in the nuts, to play the piano with ‘happy hands’!! Je t’aime de tout mon coeur, Papa 💕 - Lisette
