Before I bought these gorgeous ikat drapes from @ballarddesigns , I bought a swatch of this fabric to “sample” it—I hung it over my existing curtains to see what it would look like. As I work on my daughter’s room refresh for the #oneroomchallenge, I’m frequently finding ways to achieve a sophisticated look and feel while keeping my budget in check. One of my favorite ways to do this is shown here—I added pretty olive green trim to a basic set of @westelm white cotton curtains. I used no-sew hemming tape to add the trim, and in about an hour I suddenly had “custom” curtains for a fraction of the price. Have you added trim to your curtains? But it also reminds me to celebrate the progress we’ve made in upgrading this part of our home. Our contractor quoted us around $10K to redo our staircase. Spoiler alert: We didn’t want to drop that much on stairs so we opted to do it ourselves and spent about one-fifth of that when all was said and done. I mentioned in my stories recently that we got TWO new chairs….so here’s the second! I ordered this beauty from @anthroliving back in December when it was 20% off. It’s a gorgeous sky blue velvet, and it’s waaaaay more comfortable than the chair with a wooden frame that we had in here before. While I love the look of rattan and wood-framed accent chairs, they’re just not fun to watch a movie or snuggle in. And that’s what we needed in here. My 7-year old informed me that it’s Take Your Child to Work Day, but the only office I have to take him to is this one right here, which is also one half of our guest room. 😂 My favorite part about my office is the art wall, which includes everything from $3 printable art to framed treasures my kids made in school throughout the years. Our @calicocorners custom Jaxon Chair arrived last week, and it’s even more incredible than I’d imagined. 😍 #gifted I’m finally to a point in life where I’m able to invest in excellent-quality furniture that I know will last for decades. For years I shrugged off custom furniture solely based on the price tag, but am now realizing that a well-constructed piece is absolutely worth the investment (if you have the means to do it). Working with Calico was so easy and fun! The designer I partnered with was wonderful, and there were SO many performance fabrics (a must-have in our house with two kids and a dog!) to choose from. Oh, and my chair arrived in under three months. I feel like that’s record time for anything custom!
