No matter how you are feeling. No matter what your training had been like. 2022 - coming off one of the most difficult performances in your career at Tokyo. Didn’t feel like yourself until January. 2017 - taking Imodium in the call room dealing with a nasty case of food poisoning. 2016 - unable to train most of the winter and spring with an injury 2015 - A significantly bum hamstring and Achilles I’m sure there are more things that people don’t see. Training for a spring marathon in Boulder is no easy task. Away from your fiancé for 8 weeks. Betting on yourself. Pushing all the chips in the middle…..and hitting. Damn @sfaubs a beautifully executed race. You inspired us today. Patient, poised, smart. What a privilege to play a small role. Top American. 7th overall. 2:08:52.

Small bike and Bates. The standard pair once every 9 days the last couple months. The same loop. 20-24 miles of steady running. Bates pretending to like my music. iPhone always dying with a few miles to go we would finish in silence. Those runs (and a few others) resulted in 2nd place at Chicago for @emmajanelbates . A methodical & patient race, the same way we have trained and what we have emphasized the last 10 weeks. Emma gave a masterclass on how to properly manage energy and emotions during the course of a marathon and she was rewarded with a world major podium and one of a few elites to PB on a challenging day. We are in awe. We knew you could do it. You are a stud. I cannot wait for the next time I get to be on on the small bike for 24 miles keeping you company. Thank you to so many (most of the team) who showed up to help Emma for every long run and workout.

Time to dust of the ole Instagram. I’m proud of all of our athletes, they are truly my world, but today it’s about Cory Mcgee. I haven’t been in this game all that long, there are coaches with 40 years of experience on me, but I already know I’ll never have another athlete like cory. She has been an absolute joy to work with it. She exudes confidence even when I’m not sure it’s warranted. She shares her dreams out loud. She challenges her teammates to be better and expects them to be great. She pushes me to be better. I have to work to match her expectations. In 2018 when she called me up I wasn’t sure what our future would look like. A gifted runner who had been running at a high level since 7th grade? Honestly, maybe she was tapped out? Within the first few weeks I texted a buddy of mine and said “she’s fu*kin good” he wrote back “2020 Olympics. I’m calling it now.” While we all know she can be a frustrating racer much of the year we also know we can count on Cor when it matters. 5 weeks ago after a poor performance and giving her some tough love I told her “yea, I’ve been hard on you, I don’t think you are ready to make this team. Your fitness is good but you aren’t there yet.” She always takes criticism and suggestions to heart. We hugged it out and from there she responded like champion . She nailed everything. She looked like a star. She is a star. Cory cruised through the heats. I texted my buddy group chat “cory will do this” they all agreed. She executed her plan. She is on the team in the fastest US final ever. She ran an inspired race. Cory earned this. All pro athletes at this level work hard. The idea of having more heart or wanting it more is a silly concept. But we all saw something in cory that separated herself. It wasn’t dominating workouts or spectacular training. But it was an unrelenting confidence that not many people have, and a deep belief in me and this team. That makes an athlete easy to coach. Just give her a couple tools and watch her go to work. I am incredibly proud of you cory. Your entire team is proud

Happiest of birthdays to my dearest @emmacoburn . Most would be lucky to accomplish in a lifetime what you have done in just 30 years...and let’s be honest, how much can you really get done that first 15-20 years? Highlights include.... Met with White House, WADA, USADA, global anti doping officials to fight for clean sport World’s best HOA President - 3 years running! (Big election NEXT year) 2017 @worldathletics World Champion Multiple time runner up in the annual Halloween Beer Olympics (this could be your year if you want it bad enough! I believe in you) 3 time global 🌍 track medalist First woman to ever do a full days harvest in the beds at Bosshard Bogs (Glass ceiling breaker everywhere you go) 8x @usatf Champion Let stranger bite Olympic medal at 2am at Bob’s Burger in Rio #9 @sportsillustrated fittest people (let’s go for top 5 next year!) You’re only just warming up babe. Can’t wait to see what you do the next 10 years. I’ll continue to watch in awe and stay in the shadows and not correct anyone when they call me Josh Coburn (to be fair you also don’t correct them) Happy Birthday 🎉
