Can you tell, I took this MAKE-A-WISH moment seriously! Thank you to whoever captured this snapshot! (Was it you
@allisonelliottbeauty or
@alissamcircle ššøš)
I love how my sweet friends allow space for soulful pauses, even during celebratory moments. (Love you
@kacyanacan - you always do! šš¼šļø)
This photo brings to mind sage advice my mentor (
@aliciabrittchole ) once shared with me. The difference between:
a GOAL + a DESIRE
Simply put, a goal is something you can achieve when your own free will partners with God.
A desire involves someone ELSEāS free will partnering with God, too. Aka. Itās beyond your control.
The example I was given went something like this:
Goal: To walk on the beach 3x a week.
Desire: To walk on the beach with my Husband 3x a week.
Big difference, huh!?!
This has been incredibly important to help ward of guilt and shame. You can only do what YOU can do. You canāt control others. But God is Sovereign! And even though He gave humans free will⦠He is still Lord of ALL.
This brings a layered perspective to Psalm 37:4. Truly only God is ABLE to give me the desires of my heart.
Okay, Pop Quiz time: Tell me if this is a GOAL or DESIRE:
āI want to have 25 new students enroll in my next online course.ā
Did you say, ādesireā?! Yep. Youāre right.
The goal here would be how many people you reach out to, what marketing strategy you use, which community youāre growing with, which coach you invest in⦠what YOU can achieve.
The way I see it is:
GOALS = input / stewardship
DESIRES = outcome / Godās Sovereignty
This differentiation has been especially helpful recently in marriage, health, and business. How bout you, Friend?
Is this a helpful reminder?! Lemme know! š
