Tipu’s tiger for Aarati. I immediately connected with this project and took it in as a very special custom piece. Thank you for trusting me with this, Aarati.
Tipu’s tiger is a sculpture (and musical instrument) of a tiger mauling a British soldier. It sounds like the wails of the man dying, & the man’s arm also flails as the instrument is cranked. 3rd image credit Victoria & Albert museum, 4th image An illustration of Tipu's Tiger from the book "A Review of the Origin, Progress and Result of the decisive war with Tippoo Sultaun, in Mysore" published in 1800. The instrument was stolen from India and is still in the UK.
