I thought it was about time I introduced myself.  Hi, my name is Gabby. 🙋🏽‍♀️ Welcome to my page and thank you so much for being here! 🥹 My travel story has only just begun. In 2022 I worked full time as a Barista and I really loved it. However, when I took my first solo trip to Rome last year, I fell in love. Not just with the city, but with travelling itself. 🌎 I started feeling restless at home and soon started booking more trips. I ended my year having gone away every month in 2022 and with every trip I went on my ‘wanderlust’ only grew. 🥰 Visiting other countries made me realise how much I love learning; each country is so different with their unique history and culture! 🏛️ So late in 2022, I made the decision to quit my job and travel full time.  It took some time to decide how I wanted to incorporate travel into my life. Working a season in Canada maybe? Or travelling around volunteering? I was terrified to fail that I got so overwhelmed and was panicked by the concept of travelling! 🥲 Until I thought of all the amazing accounts I had seen when I was researching for my trips. I looked back at the accounts I followed and the posts I’d saved and thought, why can’t I do that? 🤔 So in December 2022, gogabbytravel was born.  I’m learning everyday about editing, angles, lighting etc but with every post I feel more confident in myself! 😄 Some things you can expect from my page is: 🔷Inspiration for your future travels. Whether that be new locations or hidden spots in places you’ve already been. I want to share my love of the world and hopefully encourage you to experience it for yourself! 🔷I hope to educate you as well on the things I’ve learnt along the way. Anything from a country's history, to how to get around a certain city, or how to get cheap flights. You’re making a mistake… if you don’t visit Bahia Palace! Bahia Palace has been on ‘TripAdvisor’s Top 10 Things To Do in Marrakech’ for years and for good reason! 💙What is the Bahia Palace?💙 > It’s a royal palace located on the southern edge of Marrakech’s Medina, not far from the central square. It may not look like much from the outside but once you pass through the entrance, it certainly will meet your expectations of a royal palace. > It was built in the second half of the 19th century by the Sultan’s grand vizier and named after one of his wives, Bahia - meaning beautiful or brilliance in Arabic. > It was built by the very best of Morocco’s artisans which is easy to see once you enter. From the elaborately painted ceilings to the intricately-tiled walls, the hard work and attention to detail is clear to any eye. 💙What is there to see in the Bahia Palace?💙 > The palace has four main sections - a small riad, an inner courtyard, a grand courtyard at the back and a grand riad. > The grand courtyard is really what Bahia Palace is known for. It’s a breathtakingly large area with expansive marble flooring, dazzling tiles and beautiful mosaics that have been the backdrop to many Instagram photoshoots. > The grand riad was my favourite part of the palace. It’s the oldest part and (in my opinion) the most striking. The stained glass windows, the tiles and the fountains all contribute to it being one of the most beautiful places I have been to while visiting Marrakech. 💙What do you need to know before visiting?💙 > The opening times are 8am - 5pm. I would recommend going as early as possible, it gets very busy during the day so you might miss out on the peace and tranquillity the palace can offer you. > The entrance fee is 70 dirham (£5.50). The palace itself doesn’t offer a tour but you can sign up for a tour through GetYourGuide to really dive deep into the palace’s history. Would Bahia Palace be on your Marrakech itinerary? I stumbled across La Famille on a very hot day in Marrakesh. I’d spent the morning exploring the palaces and had worked up a healthy appetite! 🪴 Hidden on a busy pedestrian street, you could easily walk straight past them. But if you just walk through a narrow hallway you’ll be transported to a beautiful mediterranean inspired garden. 🪴 Only open for lunch, La Famille is an extremely popular restaurant so I would recommend booking in advance! 🪴 One thing different about La Famille is they have a ‘shared table’ policy. Meaning you’ll be sitting with people not a part of your party if there is room left on your table. So be prepared to make some new friends while enjoying some great food! 🪴 The restaurant is a type of Moroccan Mediterranean fusion, incorporating fresh seasonal produce that changes daily. The menu, which is completely vegetarian, offers just three options. A salad made with fresh fruit and vegetables from the market, a pasta inspired by the south and a focaccia pizza with freshly grilled vegetables. 🪴 Between the three of us we tried everything and I can confirm it was all amazing! You can tell the care and preparation the team put into every dish. I can say I have never enjoyed a salad as much as I did here! 🪴Would you stop for lunch at La Famille?🪴 Tell me down below

The worst kept secret in Marrakesh is … 🌸 Le Jardin Secret is nestled in the Marrakesh Medina amongst the the vendors and stalls. > Dating back more than 400 years, the garden has been the home to the most important political figures of Marrakesh and Morocco! It’s an outstanding example of Islamic art and culture which you could spend hours in. > For me, Le Jardin Secret was the perfect reprieve from the bustle of the Medina. Just sitting at the cafe, listening to the birds, taking in the beautiful nature around me. Felt like paradise! 🌸 What you need to know before you go: > The Gardens are open everyday from 9:30am to 7:30pm > If you’re visiting with a group bigger than 10, you need to book your tickets online in advance. Otherwise you can grab your tickets at the entrance > You’ll be asked to deposit any food or drinks in the cloak room free of charge. Here’s a mini guide to Marrakesh, one of the biggest cities in Morocco: ✨ What not to miss: > The Souks - 12,000 market stalls based in thier Old town selling handcrafted items from spices to clothing to brass lamps. Anything you could think of you’ll find in the souks! > El Badi Palace - the palace was once the biggest palace in Morocco but fell into ruins after the decline of the Saadian Dynasty. Now you can tour around the ruins and see the grandeur of the past. > Ibn Youssef School - the school is an Islamic madrasa functioning today as a historical site. It’s covered in beautiful tiles, 100% worth a visit! > Le Jardin Secret - Take some time away from the busy markets in the Secret Garden. A traditional islamic garden hidden away. I could have spent hours just sitting here, listening to the birds! ✨ Where to stay: > Riads - a riad is a traditional Moroccan house or palace with an indoor garden and courtyard. You’re missing out … if you don’t visit Tallinn’s Creative City, Tellskivi. A lot of people only know Tallinn by their incredible Old Town. But what a lot of travellers don’t know is about the neighbourhood just a 15 minute walk away. The Telliskivi neighbourhood or the ‘Creative City’ is a former industrial complex brought back to life which attracts colourful crowds all year round. There are galleries, small shops, restaurants and streets full of incredible artwork just waiting to be discovered! 🎨☕️🛍️ You can’t leave the Creative City without grabbing a bite to eat. 🍗 For a quick snack, grab something from the street vendors - you won’t be disappointed. 🍗 Fancy sitting down for a little? Kivi Paber Kaarid offers increible food and atmosphere and is 100% gluten free. After a meal, why not step into one of the many shops of Telliskivi? 🛍️ You’ll find a large variety of products made by insanely talented Estonian designers. If you’re a fan of thrift shopping, you should head to Telliskivi on Saturdays when large Flea Markets take over the place. When the night begins is when the neighbourhood really does come to life. There’s always something going on, no matter what time you get there. The only museum you need… if you only have one day in Tallinn. 🇪🇪 A lot of people have limited time in Tallinn. Maybe you’re on a day trip from Helsinki? Or Tallinn is the starting point for a bigger trip? Either way you’ll want to see as much of the city as possible. If you only have time for one museum it needs to be the Kiek in de Kok Museum. Especially the Bastion Tunnels! > What are the tunnels? They’re a part of the Kiek in de Kok Fortifications Museum and are below the Old Town of Tallinn. They were built in the 17th and 18th centuries and were used as a way to defend the city against enemy fire from multiple angles.🔥 > Where to find the tunnels? The museum is located at Toompea Hill very close to Freedom Square. The full fortification is stunning from the outside as well. I’d recommend, if you have the time, to walk around both sides of the wall. 🚶‍♀️ > The history of the tunnels themselves are incredible. They were used as: A refuge during WW2 and the Soviet times. Storage for the local Art Foundation. A safe haven for Tallinn’s homeless. A headquarters for the underground punk movement Until in 2004, they became part of the museum and were opened to the public. The museum itself is over 500 metre long and includes 4 main towers. Which are all open for you to explore. In the first tunnel, they have an amazing area explaining the various myths and legends of Estonia as well as some games that were played in the Mediaeval times. This personally was my favourite part of the whole museum. It’s supposedly for kids but we’re all kids at heart right? 😅 🎟️Ticket Prices🎟️ Whole museum - €12 Towers - €8 Tunnels - €8 If you’re a student, you’ll get a great discount so don’t forget your ID at home! Tallinn can be expensive … compared to other Eastern European countries. But coming from London, I found Estonia’s capital to be fairly reasonable. 🥗 FOOD 🥗 > If you stay in the main square, you’ll obviously pay those ‘capital city’ prices when eating out. So I would definitely recommend exploring the neighbouring areas for lower prices (better quality most of the time too). > An average meal for one person would cost around €9 - €16, depending on which restaurants you choose. You’ll definitely have lots of places to choose from. > If you’re a big coffee lover like me, you’ll be happy to know it won’t break the budget grabbing a cup. On average I spent €2 - €3 a day on a coffee, which is very good considering back home my coffee order can be double that 😅 > Because my trip to Tallinn was part of a bigger trip throughout Eastern Europe, I decided to hit the supermarkets. I spent around €15 at the stores grabbing enough food for 3 meals. > Because I am gluten intolerant, I would say my food was pricier than wheat-filled items. So I would guess your total would be even cheaper! 🌾 🚎 PUBLIC TRANSPORT 🚎 Tallinn is easily walkable. In fact, I would recommend walking as much as possible to really explore the city. I found that when I did use the public transport system it was extremely affordable and easy to navigate. Grabbing a ‘60’ minute ticket only cost €1.50. To save even more money, you can get either a three-day ticket (€7.50) or a five-day ticket (€9). I only spent €3 in total getting to and from the airport on the tram. 🎟️ ATTRACTIONS 🎟️ The average price for attraction tickets are €10 - €14. If you’re a student you can get a great discount on the majority of entrance tickets as well. Make sure to bring your ID! If many of Tallinn’s attractions and museums are on your itinerary, then getting a Tallinn Card is the best way to save money. 🚨 I’ve been asked quite a lot… is one day enough for Tallinn? 🇪🇪 Tallinn is really one of the most beautiful cities in Eastern Europe. Being so close to Finland’s capital, it’s a popular day trip from the city. But Tallinn is worth more than just a few hours. You can’t see everything in Tallinn in one day. You can get a feel for the Old Town and enjoy the iconic panorama from the Toompea viewpoint. But you’ll most likely miss out on everything else that makes Tallinn so beautiful. 😍 So how many days do you actually need in Tallinn? > I would recommend at least two nights to really explore all that Tallinn has to offer. Like the other capitals of the Baltic countries, Tallinn is a small city. All the main attractions are walking distances from each other and public transport is super affordable and easy to navigate. 🚌 Tallinn also has loads of museums. Maybe you’re interested in a particular part of the city’s history? There will probably be a museum dedicated to it. 😄 You can easily spend a whole day jumping from museum to museum, learning about how Tallinn has evolved over the years. If that sounds like heaven - definitely look into getting a Tallinn Card. If you fancy exploring more of what Estonia, you could rent a car and head out and see what else the country has to offer. ✨ 5 reasons why Tallinn needs to be on your European bucket list ✨ 🌼 Tallinn’s Town Hall Pharmacy has been in business for over 500 years - the pharmacy was first mentioned in the official records in 1422! It’s now known as Europe’s longest-operating pharmacy which you can still visit today. You won’t find them selling centuries old herbs and cures but you can find an exhibition on how they helped the people of Tallinn back in the day. 🌼 Tallinn is home to Estonia’s Oldest Cafe, The Maiasmokk Cafe. They’ve been in business since 1864 and haven’t changed their interior for over one hundred years. Definitely a must visit to try some traditional Estonian cuisine. 🌼 Tallinn holds one of the largest cultural festivals of Europe. Held only once every 5 years, the Estonian Song and Dance Celebration was declared a UNESCO Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity. The festival was created as a way to keep Estonian folk song and dance alive and in 2014, the choir reached 30,000 members. The next festival is in 2025 but the Youth Song Concert takes place this July! 🌼 St. Olaf’s Church was once the tallest building in the world from 1549 to 1625, standing at 124 metres. Nowadays it doesn’t hold a candle to The Shard or the Empire State Building but it’s still an impressive part of Tallinn’s skyline. 🌼 Tallinn is considered the ‘Silicon Valley’ of Europe. Among European countries, Estonia has the highest number of startups per person and even offers a ‘Startup Visa’ as a way to encourage young entrepreneurs to relocate and join the growing community. Maybe you’ve heard of a small company called Skype? They started right here in Tallinn! ✨ Tallinn is full of surprises. ✨March Recap 2023✨ This year has been going so fast I feel like I can’t keep up, so here’s a small insight of what March looked like for me! March has been the busiest month for me so far. I explored 9 new countries and 12 new cities. 🌍 I’d planned this trip last year, not really knowing anything about the places I was visiting. But I was blown away with the history and beauty of every city I went to! I started in the North East of Europe and worked my way down to the South, using mostly buses but the occasional train to move around. I’ve got to mention, the transport in Eastern Europe, including the cities’ public transport, is so much better and more affordable than what I’m used to in the UK! 🚌 This was my first time moving from city to city at such a fast paced. The longest I stayed in one place was 3 days - the shortest less than 24hours! I can definitely say that it was exhausting. In fact, I feel like I’m still catching up on sleep now 😅 The long bus rides were a welcome break from the sight-seeing and I was pleasantly surprised how smoothly they went. I’ll go into more detail about my experiences in later posts but I can say they’re not as bad as they seem. The whole experience was incredible. It felt like I was doing a taster session of Eastern Europe and I’d go back to each city in a heartbeat.
