🚨 Interesting case 🚨 This was an interesting case and I thought I’d share with my fellow colleagues/physicians/practitioners and of course those who seem to be interested in healthcare space or on their way. 56yrs old male Patient comes in with knee pain and complaint that the pain bothered him when bent or getting up after sitting for too long. Mentioned the pain was a “deep ache” and at times would “throb” - 8/10 worse - 6/10 good day. Movement helps. But was limited to how long the relief would last. On several meds. No history of family is. Past history of heart conditions and HBP. After examining, I noticed color changes on left side compared right side. This drove me to get further information. We decided to Xray the knee and look for degenerative changes being he was older gentleman. Of course after evaluating the film, there’s a mesh that he had put in his leg (twice) from a compromised popliteal artery. If you notice there on the film you can see the two different mesh overlapping and the shorter one was calcifying. After sending him to his PC, I got repost that it was indeed calcifying and he needed it changed, again. Moral of the story, do your evaluation properly. Note changes. Ask detailed questions from your patients. What seems like what they are telling you versus what is actually going on could be vastly different. Listen but always follow your intuition and double check. This could have caused A LOT of problems for him possibly created clots if not caught. This is me 3 years ago @ SBLIII working with @celebritysweat . With my table. With my hands...ready to work. An opportunity to work. I’ve been getting a lot of DMs lately and questions about how I got to where I am as a Sport Doc, what route I took, studying I engaged in, certs.. etc. Truth is, there is no blueprint. There’s no rule book. There is no path. The joinery is long, hard, tiresome, and can make you want to give up. I have had opportunities to work with some great athletes (pros/none pros) and most of the time it has been for free. Being a sports doc you will have to do A LOT of pro-bono work - should you choose to be in this space. Sometimes that’s not by choice. It could be an opportunity, it could be a friend in need, it could be you just wanting to better your skillset. Whatever it is, it promotes growth. When you become better through those experiences, you get more confidence and comfortable! This doesn’t mean go practice on professionals to get those skills lol. Here is what I will say: You must go places nobody wants to go, do things nobody will do, be humble and open to learning at all times and always knowing you are growing. Chances are, you won’t miss vital messages. I hope this motivates anyone out there on the same journey. Your journey is your journey.
