BIRTH: "the beginning or coming into existence of something". Your baby is coming into existence in the physical outside world, and you are coming into existence as a mother. That word alone is so loaded and has so many definitions. I want you to think about your needs during the transition to being a mom. No matter where you’re at in the journey, your needs matter.
How many of you felt like in labor, you had all the TLC in the world, had your needs met and felt so attended to… then the baby was born. You’ve been waiting forever to meet them, learn them and snuggle them, so DUH the focus is going to be on them! It should! But let’s remember and give credit to the fact that you (and your partner) have been born into parenthood. It can be overwhelming, stressful and so transformative in the best way. Let's nurture you as well during this time- when you are taken care of, your baby is better cared for.
What will you need in that time? Heng Ou of The First 40 Days book (link in my book recs on my
@Amazon list) condenses your needs into 5 things:
🌱RETREAT: Draw the circumference of your world in closer. I'll add nature here.
🍵WARMTH: Conserve, protect and replenish your body.
🤗SUPPORT: Receive help from your “village” so you can give fully to baby.
🛏REST: Create conditions within and without for good sleep and repair.
🕯RITUAL: Honor the significance and sacredness of this time.
How will you nurture your new self in this time?
