This was two years ago now but it still often hurts like it was yesterday! As most of you know, I have been suffering (I say it like this as the surgery is not a cure for endometriosis) with chronic illness and pain scales of 5-10 on a daily basis my whole life. I decided enough was enough and opted in for a hysterectomy but that has obviously come with it’s own struggles. Yeah, I do question whether it was worth it almost daily as you begin to forget what the pain was like, how limiting and emotionally draining being unwell truly feels. I know deep down that it was the right choice but I wasn’t prepare for the consequences. You swap out pain for a total remapping of how your brain functions, your desires, interests and drives. Alongside this, the sheer difficulties that come with a life on hormone replacement. HRT is not like a birth control pill that you can just come off, if you don’t get on with it, it’s tough luck as without it your bones can become painful and brittle, your life expectancy can reduce and your are more likely to get Alzheimer’s. If you’re considering a hysterectomy for #adenomyosis then please do your research and weigh it up carefully.
