North Wales not only has stunning mountain views but also lots of beautiful coastline and gorgeous beaches. Today we discovered a lovely little cycle route from Y Felinheli near Bangor along the coast to Caernarfon. A beautiful day in Betws Y Coed today 😍 We've not had much of this weather recently so made the time to go out for a bike ride up to Llyn Geirionydd. It's such a lovely cycle through the luscious forest, taking in views of our closest mountain Moel Siabod and stopping at the gorgeous Llyn Bychan on the way. Had a lovely afternoon exploring around Diffwys Slate Quarry in Blaenau Ffestiniog. It's a fascinating place and one of many slate mines that surround the town of Blaenau, which is why there are so many slate spoil heaps, that give the town its distinctive look. Diffwys is one of the first quarries to open in the 1800's and along with several others, put the town at the centre of Slate production in North Wales. Its a huge site and is full of history and stunning views of the surrounding mountains. We've had a few days off for a little break so we headed up to Llyn Eigiau for a walk up to Wales's highest lake Llyn Llyffant.🗻 This lake like so many in the area, was the site of an air crash on 9th December 1957. An English Electric Canberra plane, was being flown by 2 RAF pilots during a training mission. It crashed into the ridge of Carnedd Llewelyn and sadly killed the pilots, breaking up into many pieces and landing in and around the lake, of which many of the parts can still be seen today. It made visiting this beautiful place very poignant. We managed to get out this week for a bit of a hike and decided to go somewhere we'd not been before. Our walk started at the stunning Pistyll Rhaeadr. At 240ft (80m) high it is Britain's tallest single-drop waterfall located in the Berwyn Mountains, just outside Oswestry ⛰️ Our walk took us on a circular from the falls up into the Berwyn Mountains and to the peak of Cadair Berwyn. At 832m its only a couple of hundred metres shorter than Snowdon, but unlike its taller brother it was very quiet and we were the only ones at the summit! It was cloudy and hazy, so the views were not as extensive as they could be on a clear day, but still stunning. The walk from the summit took us along the ridge and back down to the very top of the falls 240ft up!! We've had a lovely busy couple of weeks over Easter, but we managed to take some friends to see one of our favourite places this week 😍 Newborough beach on Anglesey is a stunning place.
