Been a while since I did some astrophotography with the unmodified Nikon D750. So whilst on holiday decided to have a go at a Milky Way mosaic with the 50 mm lens. I had not bothered to take the Astromodified D750 or the Samyang 24 mm lens as there was a 36% moon in the sky and wasn’t sure I would get a decent image. This image is the final crop of the mosaic which was 35 images in total. Some really bright light right in front of the Milky Way core caused me a lot of grief while processing this image but overall I am pretty satisfied with it. More worryingly my MacBook seems to not like me doing mosaic images. Supernova in M101 🌟 When a supermassive star reaches the end of its life cycle something spectacular happens, it explodes into a supernova leaving either a neutron star or a black hole behind in its place. This explosion is the result of the star running out of fuel - it has fused elements together all the way up to iron, but now it can’t fuse anymore. The star begins to collapse under its own gravity but the gases soon encounter the extremely hot dense iron core and rebound outwards in a startling bright explosion that tears the star apart. This explosion easily becomes the brightest thing in a galaxy - totally outshining even the very core of a galaxy. What’s even cooler is that this event triggers further fusion reactions causing the production of all the elements in the periodic table that are heavier than iron. The remnant gases from a supernova are now sprinkled with these heavier elements which can then be incorporated into new star systems when they start to form from the gases in the future. Our sun, solar system, and planet were all formed incorporating the star dust from a past supernova. On May 19th such an event occurred in a galaxy quite far away - the Pinwheel galaxy (M101) - found approximately 23 million light years away. I was fortunate enough to have had the chance to get an image of this supernova in the days following its appearance. I actually imaged M101 back in March so I could see a direct comparison of the galaxy with and without the supernova from my own images. Even though I’m speaking of this event as though it just happened, remember that this galaxy is 23 MILLION light years away - this means that this explosion happened 23 million years ago in the past. Who knows what this area truly is like today - has it spawned a new star yet that incorporates the elements born from the supernova explosion? Is there a planet being formed right from those rock and mineral atoms that will eventually be home to life? I have no idea, but the thought of it sure is pretty cool.

It is one of the most conspicuous and best-known spiral galaxies in the sky. M 51 is interacting with its much smaller neighbor, NGC 5195; the two galaxies may be seen with binoculars under very dark skies. M 51's distance is estimated at 23 million light-years. With this distance and M 51's angular diameter of 11.2', the galaxy's bright circular disk has a radius of about 38,000 light-years. It is estimated to contain 160 billion solar masses. M 51 is comparable to the Andromeda Galaxy (M 31) and to our own Milky Way in size, mass, and luminosity. And, like M 31 and the Milky Way, M 51 has a major satellite galaxy - NGC 5195. Visually, the two systems give the impression of being actually connected. But photographs reveal that this is not true, for they show that the dark dust lanes of the large spiral curve in front of the companion. The Whirlpool Galaxy is the dominant member of a small group of galaxies that also includes M 63 (the Sunflower Galaxy), NGC 5023, and NGC 5229. : Supernova 2023ixf in Galaxy M101 Date : May, 23, 2023 Time: 23:00 LT | 19:30 UT Telescope : Ed80 Camera : QHY533M (LRGB) L : 15x120s R, G, B : 20X120S Software : N.I.N.A & PixInsight ابرنواختر در کهکشان M101 چالش عکاسی و ثبت این ابرنواختر من را به سمت کویر ابوزید آباد کشاند. تنها جایی که از نظر رصدی نزدیک به محل زندگی من بود. شب اول عکاسی موفق به ثبت خوب نشدم، اما شب دوم توانستم تصاویر این کهکشان را با دوربین QHY533M در چهار کانال LRGB تهیه کنم. تاریکی آسمان چندان خوب نبود و غبار محلی شفافیت را پایین آورد. گرمای منطقه رصد در حدود بیست و پنج درجه بود که عکاسان آسمان شب میدانند اصلا خوب نیست. سرانجام دیشب پس از پردازش نتیجه قابل قبولی برای من داشت و قدر ابرنواختر بر اساس تخمین، بین 10.8 تا 11 بود. البته در بولتن جهانی قدر 10.8 برای این ابرنواختر ثبت شده و روند کم نور شدن آن شروع شده. بنابراین در اوج درخشندگی توانستم آن را ثبت کنم. این ابرنواختر ٢١ میلیون سال پیش منفجر شده و ما الان آن را میبینیم!! با بازنشر این پست به بهتر دیده شدن آن کمک کنید 😎🙏 #astrophotography #astronomy #photography #iran #supernova #galaxy #m101 #deepsky #ed80 #qhy533m #qhy #travel #sky #space
This newly discovered supernova is the closest to Earth in a decade & it's visible in the night sky right now. This new supernova has appeared in a galaxy — a star city — beyond our own. The galaxy is known as the Pinwheel Galaxy, (also designated as Messier 101, or M101) and is a large, loosely wound, spread-out, open-faced spiral galaxy which can be viewed through a small telescope with the proviso if the sky is dark enough. Look for its faint little constellation Lyra hanging down from it, with its bottom canted to the right.
