Doomsday (2008) 30 years after a lethal virus decimated Scotland, it resurfaces in the quarantined zone of the United Kingdom, forcing the government to send a special ops team "outside the walls" to search for a rumored cure in the wasteland left behind, and the terrain is...inhospitable, at best. . I don't really know how he pulled this one off, but writer/director #NeilMarshall concocted a bizarre and high-octane genre mish-mash that by all accounts shouldn't gel. Equal parts "Escape from New York" and "Mad Max", he doses the plot with a healthy mix of zombie apocalypse horror and Ridley Scott medieval epic for good measure. What results is a wildly entertaining and action-packed amalgamation of genre salad, with all the blood and guts you could ask for on the side. . Holding the action on her very capable shoulders in #Doomsday is #RhonaMitra as Eden Sinclair, our surrogate "Snake Plissken" (complete with missing eye), a no-bullshit and uncompromising soldier who deals with the chaos like another day at the office. Mitra is SO badass, in fact, that I'm a little miffed she's not reached the echelon of action stars who have transitioned to bigger fare, like the Marvel Universe or been set up with her own franchise! .
