One of my favorite things about Marrakesh is the vibrant, sometimes chaotic, yet lively souks 🇲🇦
A “souk” is the name given by the Arabs for an open marketplace. It refers to a big area where vendors set up their shops, selling everything from fresh vegetables to spices.
Souks at popular markets in Marrakesh, like Jemaa el-Fna in the city’s Medina quarter, can be overwhelming to navigate (I SURE WAS!!!). But, if you walk slightly outside the bustling center of Jemaa el-Fna, you can find smaller, less-overwhelming souks like this, geared more toward the locals❤️
By walking around the souks, you can get a glimpse of the energy of local markets, and I must say, it’s one of the best ways to emerge to Marrakesh’s fabulous food scene✨
Even though the items being sold on the streets and languages I hear in the background are slightly different, the souks remind me of the same energy of Korean traditional street markets, jaerae sijang 재래시장🥹
It’s taken some time to adjust to Morocco’s different cultures, but I’m having a blast absorbing all the new sceneries and senses, even though I feel slightly out of my comfort zone!
